Right after the surgery a personal sized splint will be taped to the
exterior of the nose to protect and provide stability as the nose heals.
This splint will remain on your face for up to 5 to 8 days. There may
also be packing pressed inside the nose to add additional interior shape
support, but will be removed usually the day after cosmetic plastic surgery.
Your face will be tender, painful and most often show severe signs of
bruising especially around the nose and eyes. Some will have the typical
black eye look while others will experience a minimum of discoloration.
Pain medication will be prescribed to keep you relatively comfortable
for the first few days after your cosmetic surgery – nose job.
Cold compresses can help decrease swelling and can make you feel a bit
more comfortable when the nose pain begins to throb after returning
home. The first few days you will need to sleep with your head mostly up
in a reclining but relaxed way.
There may be some spotty bleeding or drainage; some surgeons may suggest
taping a small piece of gauze under the nose to limit dripping. If
redness, bleeding or tenderness gets worse after 3 to 4 days rather than
better contact your cosmetic surgeon immediately.
Specific instructions to avoid all strenuous activities, sun, not
wearing glasses, avoiding flying and any other risky activity for up to
2 weeks. Your splints will be removed within the first 7 to 10 days
after the nose job operation.
It is very important that you follow all the after care instructions
closely. By acting impatiently and rushing the healing process can
create problems as the nose tries to compensate for your behavior.
Infections, excessive bleeding, collapsed nose and further disfigurement
are just a few of the risks. Another vital point to safe after care
treatment is to keep all your follow-up appointments so the surgeon can
examine the nose healing process thoroughly.
